WALLOWA TITLE COMPANY
has been serving Wallowa County residents for 100 years!

Articles of Incorporation for Wallowa Law Land & Abstract Co. were filed February 12, 1907, by Daniel Boyd, Ethel A. Boyd and Samuel Litch.  Stock Certificate No. 1 was issued to Daniel Boyd on April 15, 1907.  The business was owned or managed over the years by various other people familiar to longtime Wallowa County residents: C. M. Lockwood, Charles Bilyeau, Maude Peterson, L. E. Jordan, Wm. Spence, R. D.  McClellan, Irene Reece.  In l961 it was purchased by Harold Haller, Dean Erwin and Lorin Ricker, and the name was changed to Wallowa Title Company.

Wallowa Law, Land & Abstract Company was originally located in the building now housing Lear’s Restaurant and then in the Enterprise Bank Building (later the Circle T Restaurant).  In 1935 the Wallowa National Bank Building on the NE corner of First and Main was acquired.  The title company remained there until 1990 when it was moved to 108 S. River Street, across from the Courthouse. In January 2000, the former U.S. Bank Building behind the Courthouse became home.

Wallowa Title Company’s real property records go back to the late 1800's.  It is a unique collection of information and we have a history of every property in Wallowa County right at our fingertips. The company originally issued Abstracts of Title, abbreviated versions of all recorded documents affecting title to a parcel of land.  People guarded these Abstracts very carefully.  A number of them are in the Wallowa County Museum.   The first Owner’s Title Insurance Policy was issued July 29, 1934.

There have been two other title companies in the County over the years - Wallowa County Abstract Company, 1915-1926, and Citizen’s Title & Escrow Service, 1976-1999.  In January, 2000, Citizen’s was merged into Wallowa Title Company.

Marilyn started working for Wallowa Title in about 1972 and learned the title business from Irene Reece and Frances Crow.  She was able to purchase the business in 1988, and ran it by herself for some time, working days, nights and weekends.

Marilyn passed in 2021 and even though she is no longer with us, the staff she built and trusted has continued to provide the same level of service she so diligently offered the community.

We are all very proud of Wallowa Title Company and the service it has provided to the residents of Wallowa County over the past 100 years.  We hope to be here to continue that service for another 100!

Thank you Wallowa County.
